July 6: Support for Rockafellow
Two leading candidates have emerged for Democrats' Ward 6 Councilperson nominee. Their backgrounds are strikingly different.
Miranda Schubert is the establishment's choice. She's been building her political résumé since 2021, when she lost that primary. She has well-known campaign chairs. Her flyer details community jobs/ involvements/ endorsements. As the Mayor's Board of Adjustment appointee and the founder of Arizona's first YIMBY (Yes In My BackYard) chapter, her positions on issues more likely will reflect those who have supported her.
Leighton Rockafellow, Jr. is a political newcomer who brings the mindset of an experienced attorney, ready to study issues, engage the public, seek balance through problem solving. His online missionstatements make clear he understands the current
issues. His public opposition to Prop 414 and totally free bus fares gives evidence that he is a pragmatic thinker. His ties are few.
My choice: an independent Councilperson, one more likely to continue Ward 6's tradition of a NO vote when appropriate.
That's Leighton Rockafellow Jr.
